Our Thanksgiving Feast

We have been learning about the Pilgrims and their journey to the "New Land" on the Mayflower. We learned about all the challenges they faced on the ship, and when they finally got to Plymouth. Many of the Pilgrims died the first winter in America. The Wampanoags helped them survive by teaching them how to hunt and fish in their new land. Squanto was able to help the settlers a lot because he could speak English.
After their first harvest, the Pilgrims invited the Native Americans to a feast. The Wampanoag chief Massassoit brought 90 men to the feast which lasted for three days. They brought five deer to the feast. Some of the other foods were wild turkeys, corn porridge, eels, lobsters, nuts, and beans.
After learning about the first Thanksgiving, we had a wonderful Thanksgiving feast of our own. We made our own applesauce, butter, popcorn, and cranberry bread. We gathered together with Mrs. Taylor's class. Everyone shared something that they were thankful for. Then we all dug into our yummy food! Everybody tried new things and ate a lot!
It was a great feast.

We made our own butter for our feast!
